Commitment:

Scale up materials made from non-finite resources, comparable in feel & performance.

KPI:

  • >5% of MAS total material buy to be Materials of the Future.
  • Launch 5 or more Materials of the Future programs.

What this means

Increasing the use of next-generation materials made from renewable or more readily replenishable resources, offer improved environmental performance across measures such as carbon, water and energy use, while also delivering the feel, functionality and quality needed to build a more future-ready and lower-impact material portfolio.

Why this matters

Many conventional materials still depend on finite or non-renewable resources and can carry a significant environmental footprint. To build a more sustainable material base, the industry needs viable alternatives that perform well while reducing impact across the value chain. For MAS, this means supporting a shift towards materials with stronger environmental profiles and greater long-term relevance. It is an opportunity to reduce reliance on conventional inputs while helping accelerate the next generation of materials for apparel.

How we will make it happen

To further our efforts on Materials of the Future, MAS will partner with and invest in innovators developing next-generation materials from renewable and lower-impact sources. We will focus on solutions that can match the performance, quality and usability of conventional materials, while offering stronger environmental outcomes. Through these partnerships and programme launches, we aim to test, scale and integrate promising alternatives into our material portfolio, helping move newer solutions closer to commercial relevance across the business.
