Commitment:

Strengthen the availability of water in MAS and our value chain while supporting our communities to reach water positivity.

KPI:

  • Drive 20% water intensity reduction with owned wet-processing facilities & strategic raw material suppliers.

What this commitment means

Textile production has a substantial water footprint, and wet processing, which includes dyeing, washing and finishing, is particularly water-intensive. Through our water stewardship efforts, the aim is to reduce the amount of water required to process each unit of fabric across our wet-processing facilities and strategic raw material suppliers, while decreasing the dependency on freshwater across its operations and value chain.

Why this matters

It’s well known that fabric processing requires significant volumes of water, creating environmental and operational risks in regions where water resources are already under pressure. Improving water efficiency helps protect a shared resource, reduces exposure to water scarcity and supports more resilient manufacturing, in terms of our operations, suppliers and surrounding communities.

How we will make it happen

We will focus on process optimisation, technology upgrades, stronger measurement and increased water reuse where feasible. We will also work with strategic raw material suppliers to understand their water footprints, identify priority processes and implement practical reduction plans. Consistent performance tracking and collaboration across the value chain will support progress where the greatest opportunities exist.
