Commitment:
Reduce absolute greenhouse gases across our operations and value chain.
KPI:
- Reduce our Scope 1 & 2 emissions footprint by 80% over a 2019 baseline by 2030, leading to Net Zero by 2048.
What this commitment means
Having set our Science Based targets in 2021, MAS is now renewing those commitments for 2030, 2040 and leading to Net Zero. By reducing our Scope 1 and 2 footprint by 80% against a 2019 baseline by 2030, we are creating a clear pathway towards Net Zero by 2048. The aims to transform how our facilities are powered and operated, while enabling the business to grow without emissions rising at the same rate.
Why this matters
Climate change presents growing risks to people, communities and business continuity. As a global manufacturer, we have a responsibility to reduce the emissions within our direct influence and help accelerate the transition to lower-carbon operations. Acting now strengthens resilience, reduces exposure to future energy and regulatory risks, and encourages continued innovation across our manufacturing network.
How we will make it happen
MAS aims to reduce our own emissions by transitioning more of our electricity use to renewable sources and increasing the use of certified sustainable biomass where appropriate. We will also continue to improve energy efficiency across facilities, equipment and manufacturing processes. Clear decarbonisation roadmaps, capital planning and monitoring will support implementation and maintain accountability towards our near-term targets and longer-term Net Zero ambition.
Commitment:
Reduce absolute greenhouse gases across our operations and value chain.
KPI:
- Influence our value chain to reduce our Scope 3 emissions footprint by 46.2%.
What this commitment means
While we look to reduce emissions withing our own scope, it’s clear the larger impact is associated with materials, suppliers, transportation and other activities required to make and deliver our products. Reducing our Scope 3 footprint by 46.2% means using our influence, partnerships and investment decisions to support lower-carbon choices across the value systems.
Why this matters
A significant share of apparel’s climate impact sits within complex global value chains and cannot be reduced by any one organisation acting alone. Progress therefore depends on collaboration across materials, manufacturing, logistics and sourcing. By addressing Scope 3 emissions, MAS can help accelerate change in areas where some of the industry’s largest impacts occur.
How we will make it happen
MAS will work with suppliers and value-chain partners to increase the adoption of lower-impact materials, technologies and production methods, as well as reduce the footprint of transport and logistics. We will support this through collaboration, investment and clearer emissions expectations across our sourcing ecosystem. Better data, supplier engagement and ongoing performance tracking will help identify priority areas and measure progress towards the target.
