WATER NOT WASTE
We understand the need to preserve our natural resources. Our commitment to reduce 65% of our water intensities by 2025 embodies our intent. Efficient water usage during periods of drought and floods, effective management of rainwater, responsible wastewater disposal, with zero impact to our operations, ensures that we will mitigate any negative impact on the environment and community.
Approximately 68% of our total water usage is used for textile processing and 32% for human consumption. One third of this supply comes from our own water treatment plants. The water extracted from rivers is treated before being used across MAS facilities. Another 10% of our water is directly extracted from wells in areas that do not have adequate access to water. 5% is harvested from rainwater and recycled from our sewage treatment plants. We increasingly intensify our efforts and innovation to raise the volume of water we recycle into our system.
The effluent wastewater discharged at MAS is aligned with the Board of Investment (BOI) or Central Environmental Authority (CEA) tolerance limits. We conduct regular testing as per BOI and CEA recommendations, and our dyeing and printing facilities go through a bi-annual wastewater testing against the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines, ensuring that all our facilities are compliant.
